This month's item is a cork borer sharpener. A cork borer is used to bore holes in cork or rubber stoppers so that tubing can be inserted; this tool is used to sharpen the borer - and it has for more than 100 years. At the turn of the century, cork borers were used by chemists, moonshiners (for distillation), and apothecaries. Today, you're likely to find them used by chemists. Anyone who used a cork borer knew how to use a sharpener. To enlarge the pic shown, click here. To view the item closed, click here.
