This month's mystery item is a fireman's spanner wrench. It's purpose is simple: It's used to attach and detach fire hoses from fire hydrants. This one was produced by the Akron Brass Manufacturer Co, patent 1925. It's not surprising that these handy tools are still used today. They originally came in a variety of shapes and sizes - and they still do. (Click here to see what we mean.) This one was in rough shape when we got it, but it cleaned up well.
